Dorothy E. Simmons, 100, passed away June 1, 2012 at Covington Heights Nursing Home.
Dorothy Simmons, daughter of Perren and Jessie Cottingham was born December 6, 1911 in Sisseton, SD. She was raised in Sisseton, SD and married Everett Simmons on October 11, 1931 in Sisseton, SD. The couple moved to a farm near Harrisburg, SD and resided for many years. Dorothy was a member of Eastern Star for 53 years and was a past matron. Dorothy worked as a Salad Chef at Minnehaha Country Club and also Cactus Heights Country Club. She and Everett enjoyed winters in McAllen, TX for several years and was in Arizona for the last two years. She was also a member of the Ladies extension Club for many years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Joanne; five brothers, two sisters, one nephew and daughter-in-law; two grandsons, David Sundvold and Steven Romo.
Survivors include her children, Jean Sundvold, Sioux Falls, SD, Jim Simmons, Whitewood, SD, Jerry Simmons, Temecula, CA; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. I’d like to express my sympathy to all of you. Many years ago I was friends with “Momma Jo” and Ellie and often have thought of your family.
