Mary Lee Cady, 77, of Harrisburg, South Dakota, passed away on September 16, 2026 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Mary Lee Allen was born on December 25, 1948, in Sioux Falls to William Duane & Mary Emogene (Rathburn) Allen. She received her education in Harrisburg, SD and was a graduate of Harrisburg High School, class of 1967.

On July 29, 1977, Mary was united in marriage to Terry Cady at the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, SD. Together, they raised four children and resided in Harrisburg for all 17 years of their marriage.

Mary held various jobs throughout her life, including working as a dental assistant, a teacher’s aide for the Harrisburg School District, and in the office at the Sioux Falls Auto Auction in Tea, SD. Most recently, Mary worked for Landscape Garden Centers, caring for and designing interior and exterior plants and containers. She had a “green thumb” and could effortlessly pull together the most beautiful arrangements. She retired in 2015.

Mary loved being outdoors. She enjoyed yardwork, landscaping and planting flowers. She also had a knack for decorating, especially for the holidays. She was the best party planner and couldn’t wait for the next family gathering. Mary always looked forward to spending time with her family at Big Stone Lake, and her many trips to the Gulf Coast of Florida. Mary will be fondly remembered as a fun-loving force who always showed up. She never failed to make us laugh – whether on purpose or by happenstance – and made everything better just by being present.

Mary is survived by her children, Angie (Jason) Blosmo of Galva, IA; Matthew Cady of Harrisburg, SD; and Sarah (Neal) Murphy of Sioux Falls, SD; Grandchildren, Conner (Payton) Blosmo of Sioux Falls, SD; McKenzie Blosmo of Las Vegas, NV; Andrew Blosmo of Sioux Falls, SD; Sloane and Ava Murphy of Sioux Falls, SD; Great Grandson, Kace Blosmo of Sioux Falls, SD; Brothers, Thomas Allen; Douglas (Catherine) Allen; and William S. (Sheri) Allen, all of Harrisburg, SD; Nieces and Nephews, Amanda (Chad) Allison of Harrisburg, SD; Ashley (Jay) Hortness of Canton, SD; Dalton (Sara) Allen of Sioux Falls, SD; and Will and Katelyn Allen of Harrisburg, SD; as well as many other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Mary “Gene” Allen; Sister, Beckey Holm and Brother-in-Law, Darrell Holm.

Services will be held at 5pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD.  A private interment will be held at a later date at Pleasant View Cemetery in Harrisburg, SD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s name to Dougherty Hospice House, or the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum.
